Mr "Bean Rock" dies

Businessman and fashion designer Richard Holden died after a long illness at home in Auckland yesterday.

Mr Holden was a former managing director of Kirkcaldie and Stains and head of Foster's brewery New Zealand. He headed the upmarket Wellington department store for four years and stepped down in August 2005 following a polo injury.

His passion was fashion, designing clothes for opera singer Dame Malvina Major and winning the Melbourne Cup fashion event six times.

A funeral service will be held in St Matthew-in-the-City church in Auckland on Saturday.
