NZ Alcohol consumption continues to rise

According to Statistics New Zealand, which issued alcohol consumption figures today, the popularity of alcopops was the leading contributor to a new high in the total volume in 2006.

Beer remained the most popular type of alcoholic beverage in New Zealand accounting for more than two-thirds of the total available for consumption in 2006.

I say wake up the people who make ignorant comments about getting beer with more flavour... there are many brewers/beer companies making a multitude of beers with a wide variety of styles and flavours other than lager. The real issue lies with many of the conservative liquor & wine shops in NZ who won't stock any of the boutique beers available. So, common you 'taste hungry' beer drinkers; hassle every wine & liquor shop out there into stocking boutiques beers like Emersons, Limburg, Wigram,Founders etc.

By far the vast majority of beer produced in this country is bland tasteless lager. The fact that not every liquor shop sells decent beer is because no-one is asking for it - and that is because no-one knows about it.
Ask the average beer drinker in the street and he will tell you this: the working mans beer is *insert manly branded local draught here*, premium beer, why thats heineken of course.
People who recognise craft beer as the only beer worth paying good money for for are the extreme minority.
